Xavier Encinas

Much thanks to Patrick for turning me onto this French Art Director living in Vancouver.  His work is solid, clearly influenced by a keen sense of typographic mastery. Xavier also has beat me to the punch on an idea that I have been meditating on for some time, an interactive cook book. But that's ok, I will just have something to improve upon :).

Below is a magazine he did for Under the Influence Magazine.  Excellent work.

Smarter Defense

Finally we put some sense into our defense budget by pulling the F22 out of production.  Lets hope they spend it wisely.

Recent Wired

The recent issue of Wired magazine has some wonderful visual nuggets.  Michael Doret and Siggi Eggertsson collaborated on this piece, "Cutthroat Capitalism: An Econimic Analysis of the Somali Pirate Business Model."  Ty Wilkins, over at Type Theory, has the full story. Some really great typography and illustration at play here.

Tonga, Blowing Up.

I love the Boston "Big Picture" series.  Always captivating imagery.  Check these spectacular photos of underwater volcanic explosions.

Evian Roller Babies

whoa.

The Dollar Redesign Project

To be honest, I had higher hopes for this contest.  That said I didn't participate so I guess I can't really complain.

The first one here is the winner, the rest were runner-ups.  I do think the second one had some solid ideas behind it.  As much as I love the color spectrums of foreign currency there's something that think should remain Green about our currency.  This designer, Michael Tyznik, IMHO did something innovative with the ol' Greenback.  Though, I think it might be time to give the dead presidents a rest.

Razor Sharp

Pretty awesome collection of vintage Razor Blade packaging.  Found this one via Draplin's blog. I just wish these were high res.

Putting Things Into Perspective

Seeing this really put things into perspective for me this morning.  As bad as this recession is hitting my pocketbook, it is nothing compared to the suffering the Iranian people are going through.

Props to Iran360 for posting these videos (of which this is extremely tame compared to the other horrendous videos on this blog).

Levis: Go Forth

Was struck by this poignant campaign on the way to work.  Speaks to the times.
